A woman struggles to move through something intangible.
This project was born out of a desire to observe movement in motion, consistently, and to capture movement in action rather than as it comes into and out of view. At the time, I felt that being able to move with the subject was a rare perspective.
Through rehearsals and camera tests the performer and I both felt that though tenacity was presented, powerlessness was the result. Without a destination the movements felt inconsequential. This added the final layer of exploration, for Jenna to be “fighting” against invisible forces ahead of her, providing motive for her constant advancement but displaying wasted efforts to affect her immediate surroundings. The effect is bittersweet.
